How to Wash and Care for your Paddleboard

Today I’m going to talk to you about board care! We’re going to keep your board free from river smell. I always wash my boards with just Dawn Dish Soap and water. If it smells really gross and rivery then I like to add a little bit of vinegar. Put it into a spray bottle and then spritz it on my boards and other accessories that go on the river. I know vinegar smells like feet, but I promise it will help do the trick.

Now as far as what tools I use to use to clean the board. The baby bottle brush is to get inside of the handle. I also have a hole at the back of a lot of my boards, so the baby bottle brush is perfect to get in there. My hard boards have a nice patented rough coating on the outside so I use a bristle brush to really get in there. I also use the bristle brush on the deck pad to get it nice and clean. Now if you have an epoxy or fiberglass board then you want to just use a rag, so that you don’t scratch the surface. If you have an inflatable board a magic eraser does the trick to get rid of any scuffs.

Another tip I have is to use a dog brush to help clean your ankle leash. You should use this when your ankle leash gets dragged through the sand or the grass and the Velcro fills up with a bunch of debris. You don’t want to rub the dog brush on the ankle leash because that will tear up the threads, but you can use it to help prick out some of the grass. This way your ankle leash stays clean and still Velcros even over time.

Those are my board care tips. Stay clean!

It’s interesting to know that epoxy can be safely applied on a paddleboard and it will still be quite buoyant. I’m interested in looking for a paddleboard rental soon because I’d like to go on a vacation soon. Spending it near water will surely be a good way to combat the increasingly warmer weather.
